HTML email

Setting up an HTML is a curious challenge for modern web designers as to get them to work in as many email programs possible you need to code them with HTML tables. Back in the nineties nearly all sites were coded this way, but now the vast majority of us code with divs and CSS (that’s cascading style sheets by the way), because separating content and styling gives us more control and is much better for the search engines.

Most email software is running a bit behind though and you need to use tables to set them out and look out for the many bugs that crop up if you don’t specify the right tags. Creating an HTML email design for sending with mailing list software and Mozilla Thunderbird is easy. Creating an HTML email design for sending with Outlook is difficult, but possible if you know how. Creating an HTML Email design for Lotus Notes is nigh on impossible, but this week we managed to wrestle an invitation email into shape for a London based charity for Lotus Notes and pleased to say it only cost us a few grey hairs. We’ll publish some more details on this project in the coming months.
